ZPPA Supplier Registration Zimbabwe: Step-by-Step Guide
Share this guide with your team on WhatsAppIn this guide
ZPPA supplier registration is the entry requirement for any business wanting to bid on public sector contracts in Zimbabwe. Without it, your tender will be rejected at the administrative compliance gate regardless of how competitive your price or methodology is. This guide walks you through the full process — from understanding which category you qualify for, to the exact documents required and what happens after your registration is approved.
Why ZPPA registration matters — and when you need it
ZPPA (Zimbabwe Procurement Regulatory Authority) maintains a national Registered Suppliers Database. All public procuring entities — central government ministries, local authorities, parastatals, state enterprises, and grant-funded entities — are required by law to verify that a bidder is in this database before processing their submission.
Registration also determines which category of contract you can bid for. Submitting a bid outside your registered category (e.g., bidding for a Category C contract when you are registered Category A) results in immediate disqualification.
Tip: Registration is free and valid for 12 months. Many Zimbabwean businesses delay registration until they see a tender they want — by then it is often too late. Register before you need it.
Understanding ZPPA registration categories
ZPPA classifies suppliers into four categories based on annual turnover. Your declared category determines the maximum contract value you are permitted to bid for.
Micro and small enterprises — individual sole traders to businesses with annual turnover up to USD 100,000. Eligible to bid for low-value contracts at local authority and district level.
Small businesses — annual turnover USD 100,001 to USD 500,000. Eligible for district and provincial procurement up to mid-tier contract values.
Medium enterprises — annual turnover USD 500,001 to USD 2,000,000. Eligible for most national public procurement contracts.
Large enterprises and established contractors — turnover above USD 2,000,000. Eligible for all public procurement including large infrastructure, defence, and international-funded contracts.
In addition to turnover categories, ZPPA registration is also sector-specific. You register under a procurement category that matches your business activity: Construction, Civil Works, IT & Communications, Supplies, Medical, Catering, Security, Transport, Consulting Services, and others. You may register under multiple sectors if your business operates across them.
Misrepresenting your annual turnover to qualify for a higher category is considered fraud under the ZPPA Act and can result in debarment from all public procurement for up to 5 years.
Documents required for ZPPA registration
Gather these before starting the online application — missing documents will cause your application to stall:
Certificate of Incorporation (CR6)
As issued by Zimbabwe Companies Registry
Form CR14 — current directors and shareholders
Must reflect current directors. Update if directors changed.
ZIMRA Business Partner (BP) number
The ZIMRA tax registration number for your entity.
Memorandum and Articles of Association
Full document as filed at Companies Registry.
Audited financial statements
Most recent completed financial year. Used to verify your turnover category.
Proof of physical business address
Utility bill, lease, or rates certificate.
Bank confirmation letter
From a licensed Zimbabwean bank confirming your business account details.
Director's ID documents
National ID or passport copies for all listed directors.
Professional certifications (if applicable)
ISO, engineering boards, sector-specific accreditations improve your supplier profile.
The ZPPA registration process
ZPPA supplier registration is done online through the ZPPA Supplier Portal at zppa.org.zw.
Create a portal account
Visit zppa.org.zw and register a new supplier account. Use your company email address — all notifications and your registration certificate will be sent here.
Complete the supplier profile
Fill in your company details, select your procurement category and sub-categories, and declare your annual turnover. This determines your category tier (A–D).
Upload all required documents
Upload scanned copies of all documents listed above. Ensure PDFs are legible — blurry scans are a common cause of delays.
Pay the registration fee
The fee is paid online via the portal. Payment options include Paynow, ZIPIT, and bank transfer.
Await ZPPA verification
ZPPA officers review your application and documents. Processing typically takes 5–15 business days. You will receive an email once approved or if any documents are insufficient.
Download your certificate
Once approved, download and print your ZPPA Supplier Registration Certificate. This document must be attached to every tender submission.
Fees and processing times
Registration fees are based on category tier. Check zppa.org.zw for the current fee schedule as ZPPA revises these periodically. As of mid-2026, the indicative range is USD 50 (Category A) to USD 200 (Category D) for the initial annual registration. Renewal fees are lower than initial registration.
Processing time is 5–15 business days for complete applications. Incomplete applications (missing documents or mismatched information) are returned for correction, restarting the clock. Most delays are caused by CR14 documents that do not match current directors, or audited financial statements from more than 24 months ago.
After registration: what to expect
Your ZPPA Supplier Registration Certificate is valid for 12 months from the date of issue. You must renew annually. ZPPA sends renewal reminders but these are not always received — set your own calendar reminder 6 weeks before your expiry date.
- Your registration number will appear in the ZPPA public database — procuring entities verify it online.
- You can update your company profile (new certifications, changed directors, revised turnover) at any time.
- If you win contracts and your turnover grows, upgrade your category tier at renewal time.
- Debarment from any public contract for non-performance or fraud is applied to your registration number — this is a public record.
